Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley was elected as London’s 689th Lord Mayor on 29th September 2016 and will take up his office on 11th November 2016. Dr Parmley is a liveryman and Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths; his mother company is the Worshipful Company of Musicians and he is a liveryman of many others. Dr Parmley is currently principal at the Harrodian School in London and has experience in creative education in particularly music. He has been the organist at the St James Garlickhythe church for 35 years and is well known to the livery for his recitals at the Company church services held at St James Garlickhythe – which follow the Midsummer Courts. His role as Lord Mayor will require him to champion the financial and professional services sector of London in the United Kingdom and overseas and will also to focus on the challenges that Brexit will pose. In addition he has stated that he will promote the cultural value of the City of London, high performing schools and academies and focus on increasing the skills and employability of young Londoners. As a liveryman of standing within the City of London the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths is proud to support Dr Parmley’s election as Lord Mayor and on this special occasion will be participating in the Lord Mayors procession in November.

Our entry is supported by generous sponsorship from Liverymen. The theme of the Show is Education and our entry will be a walking entry of Liverymen in gowns with flags, working Blacksmiths, student Blacksmiths and apprentice Blacksmiths in their aprons bearing working tools and banners. We are blessed with a thriving living craft and as the majority of our charitable giving supports the education of Blacksmiths, we are well qualified to say ‘Blacksmiths supporting Education’.

The Show is a great day out for all the family with the parade, other attractions and a free firework display on the Thames at the end of the afternoon.

We have arranged a special lunch venue at Shaws Booksellers and anybody interested in attending should contact the Clerk.
