Winner of the Tonypandy Cup 2021
We are delighted to announce that the winner of the Tonypandy Cup 2021 is Jim Whitson for his Main Entrance Gates and Side Gate, Edinburgh.
This is a very prestigious award, which was given for the first time in 1999 to Gold Medal holder Brian Russell for his work on the gates at the Globe Theatre in London.
Viscount Tonypandy, better known as George Thomas the Speaker of the House of Commons, was an Honorary Member of the Court of Assistants of The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths. After he died, and to mark his association with this Company, a cup was donated by Past Prime Warden Lt. Col. Delwyn Dennis to be presented for an outstanding example of the Blacksmith’s craft.
We hope to present the Cup to Jim at our annual Michaelmas Awards Luncheon in October 2021.
